Secretly Y'all Presents: Consumed - Fulton

Hello y'all, hope all is well.

Our next event, on March 27th at Triple Crossing (in Fulton Bottom) we want to focus on consumption. "Consumed" is a broad theme that could be interpreted in many ways. Here's what we are looking for...

Stories of addiction, over-consumption, obsession, not being able to quit, being consumed in love, drugs, sex, work, money (with hopefully conclusions of getting help or getting over said addictions.) We are looking for stories of being completely consumed by something so that you lost yourself, or any other interpretation that you have of the word Consumed.

We have visited this topic before in a special event held outside of Richmond but wanted to open it up to our broader audience.

If you or someone you know has a story specific to this theme please submit a Title of Story, Synopsis of Story and Short Bio to secretlyall@gmail.com.

Gina Sobel - Downtown

Gina Sobel is a genre chameleon. She’s a devoted multi-instrumentalist – virtuosic on flute and voice and just as expressive on sax and guitar, filled with energy and improvisational spirit. Gina’s composition takes two main directions. She writes songs with piercing lyrics and soaring vocal melodies, as well as jazz tunes that bring in elements of funk, modal jams and found sounds. She pulls these two sides together with her rock band Gina Sobel and the Mighty Fine. Gina also leads a jazz quartet (the Sobel 4tet) and plays as a solo artist and in a number of other groups.

The thaw of 2016 saw a move to Richmond, VA and a weekly residency at Bisou Bistro in historic Harpers Ferry, WV, traveling back and forth through the ghost lands of the Civil War. Greatly influenced by Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan, Gibbs writes and sings from the heart, "turning simple working-class love anthems into potent, soulful jewels."

Aerica Lauren decided it was best not to become an astronaut. Instead, she plays ukulele. Here are some reasons to be interested: it's totally heartfelt, gut-wrenching, honest, different, yet catchy. A little bit of synth, mostly acoustic, lots of harmonies and layers, and it's all her.

Annie Stokes - Downtown

Annie Stokes is an indie-folk musician from Virginia.

Raised in the nation's capital on an eclectic mixture of musical theater, bluegrass, and classic Americana, her music is a fusion of city sounds and country soul. Although playing guitar only began as a hobby, soon her hometown was buzzing about "that girl who sounds like Jewel."

Annie's lilting voice, poetic and introspective lyrics, and fingerpicking style draw listeners in with their rootsy and authentic feel. She's found, after years of making music and connecting with audiences, that when the artist prioritizes the song and the human experience that it's based on, everything else falls into place.

She released her EP 'Ponygirl' in December 2014 and her album 'DOLL' in 2016. She is currently working on her second album.

Victor Haskins - Downtown

Victor Haskins is a visionary, world-class trumpet and electronic wind instrument (EWI) player, improviser, composer/arranger, bandleader, and educator. As an artist, Victor seeks to be an advocate for, and a practitioner of, passionate and creative thought, activity, and existence, especially through (but certainly not limited to) situations involving or based upon the art of improvisation in its many forms.

Victor brings a one-of-a-kind, unique spirit and perspective to all that he does in life. This worldly approach to life is a result of growing up in a variety of diverse settings, and traveling extensively. Through music, Victor is able to synthesize his thoughts and experiences into audible emotions and sonic stories to connect with audiences. His compositions and improvisations never cease to elude the expectations of the listener, thus providing a constant stream of interest and excitement--all possible because of a foundation of meticulous, originally-conceived logic, and an open mind. The only predictable aspect of Victor's music is the clear message forged into the hearts and minds of listeners.
